The aviation industry emits 1 billion tons of CO2 annually while consuming 100 billion gallons of fossil fuels. The startup Twelve has developed a modular reactor that can convert CO2 into the requisite materials to produce jet fuel. It splits CO2 to produce carbon monoxide. When this is mixed with hydrogen, the result is synthetic gas that can be used as a fuel with lower carbon emissions than standard jet fuel.
