The French company Dracula Technologies has developed a technique that can be used to make flexible, organic photovoltaic cells. Known as “Layer”, the technique uses a functional ink, similar to with 3D printing, which contains conductive materials but no rare earth elements. The material can be adapted so that environmental sensors, for example, can be fitted with a small photovoltaic cell to independently supply themselves with power. What's more, the solar cells not only harvest energy from sunlight but also from ambient light, making them ideal for interiors.
