Packaging waste is a growing concern among consumers, and brands must go beyond making plastic-free pledges. There is a need to explore Packaging Substitutes that minimize all waste in the packaging lifecycle—including raw materials, energy, and other natural resources. Alternative formats include packaging that is easily composted, reused, repurposed, returned and refilled, or—finally—recycled. As a critical component of the Circular Economy, minimal-waste packaging requires that FMCG companies in particular rethink their packaging models and value chains, and invest in R&D.
